Scars and Memory
A photographic series into memory, scars and peoples stories
I have always had an interest in time and memory. Perhpas this is because I am the son of a serviceman and travelled a great deal in my youth I didn’t have a sense of place as such. My father often took family photos when we were growing up and our family albums are a salient treasured part of our home.
I have also always liked scars; they are portals, like photographs, to another time. Seldom forgotton scars have histories and stories attached which fascinate me. I decided to do a project in 1996 having placed an advert then in Time Out magazine asking for people with ‘interesting scars’.
Years later I continued the project placing adds online and photographing the people in a makeshift studio in my home and documenting their stories
