Personal photography work by David Woolfall
Throughout my career as a photographer I have worked my own ‘personal’ projects; things that interest me. Naturally, as a portraitist I am fascinated by people and drawn to photograph them. In the large format portrait series I used an old 5x4 field camera (those old ones where you put the cover over your head to see) to take the portraits. Its slow, clunky and awkward to use, which I quite like! These large negatives produce fabulous detail portraits.
Scars stories is a series of portraits of people with scars and their memories behind them. Themes of memory and the passing of time pervade most of the personal work shown here. I shot a series of portraits on large format of people who use the Ealing Soup Kitchen in London. I responded to an email from one of their workers who asked whether I might have an interest photographing them. Feeling that the process may be of interest to them and myself. Again, this was shot with their stories in mind, and how they came to be where they were.
