Large format portraits for Ealing soup kitchen

Soup kitchen portraits from Ealing, London

Possibly using a 5x4 field camera for portraits of people who use the Ealing soup kitchen was creating a rod for my own back! However, I just could resist using the old brute…

Naturally, working with the 5x4 is slow and challenging at times but It did create a nice talking point to the participants that I photographed; people were really intrigued! It took some lovely portraits too…mainly due to the patience of my models I must admit…

Here’s a few to have a look at and you can see more work on my ‘current projects’ section of my website.

I wanted to spend a few more months going to the center, creating portraits and taking down people’s experinces but I felt that the idea was getting a little crowded. Andrew a goof guy and well meaning worker at the center has encouraged other photographers to come and visit the center so it kind of lost it orginality which was a great shame. All the same I got to mean some great people and play with this lovely camera…

Thanks

David
